Reduce Heating Costs?

Question:
I have a 1800 sq. ft. house, 13 years old and it is fairly air tight. It is heated by a natural gas high efficiency furnace, a gas water heated tank, and I would like to know how your system could help me achieve better money saving results. We live in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Thank you very much for your time and effort.
Answer:
Your potential savings are defined by your current natural gas bill. How much do you pay yearly?
Also, if you use wood for heating, how much does the wood cost you? Good, seasoned hardwood at $250/cord (128 ft3) is cost equivalent with high efficiency NG at todays low prices, if a Heat-Booster system is used. Install a HB24 system if your cost of wood is well below $250/cord.
One of your best cost saving options may be to install a solar water pre-heat system. This will recover free heat most of the year. A large heat sink such as a water tank can be used with solar and wood heat. There is much information about this on this web site.
Always remember that savings are income tax and HST free! (Improves economics).
