Overall wood stove efficiency is not well understood by the general public. To achieve high overall efficiency, combustion must be complete, and as much energy as practically possible must be recovered from flue gases. Complete combustion requires high temperatures with sufficient excess air. Click here for advice on wood burning when Heat-Boosters are installed. There are those who say that the Heat-Booster idea is plain nuts. Our testing has proven how wrong they are. Original prototype is now in regular use and there are no visible signs of creosote after 150 hours of operation. One of the best articles on wood burning can be downloaded here.
Current EPA certified wood stoves have a basic design flaw in that they lack a turbulent afterburner with excess air. Heat-Booster has developed a design that corrects this problem. Add a catalytic module and virtually all harmful emissions are eliminated. We call it "The Ultimate Wood Stove". A test unit is operational in Kitchener, Ontario.
Heat-Booster systems consist of a heat recovery unit, blower and a Draft-Booster. Catalyst module is optional. Blower speed controllers are available, both manual and automatic.

Heat-Booster systems can be used with wood, corn, pellet and coal burning stoves. The Heat-Booster system has made a tremendous difference at the place where it was first tested. It used to take 24 hours of electric heat and wood stove at full blast to heat a cold (6°C) house to 20°C. After installation, the house is warm in only 8 hours, using only wood, and only a fraction (1/3) of the wood previously used. Heat-Booster system recovered 12 kW or 45,000 BTU/h from flue gases. This illustrates the inefficiency of wood stoves.

Wood energy, when using a high efficiency Heat-Booster unit, is cost competitive with high efficiency natural gas.

How to install
Creosote is the result of incomplete combustion caused by bad stove design and bad operating practices. Hot fires and excess air is all it takes to eliminate creosote. Thermal efficiency for wood stove drops with excess air usage and hot fires. What good is high combustion efficiency if all the heat is lost up the chimney?? This is not a problem but an opportunity for Heat-Booster energy recovery systems. Remember to only use well dried hardwood.
